4 Quick Ways to Update USB Drivers

It doesn’t have to be a huge pain to update USB drivers. Many PC users go into panic mode when their USB devices stop working. The majority of people throw the baby out with the bathwater by reformatting Windows or buying a new USB device. The fact is, you can solve USB problems with a just few clicks. Let’s go over the easiest ways to resolve USB issues.

General Information Regarding USB

Universal Serial Bus ports and devices, also known as USB, are basically components that transfer data between devices and host computers. USB technology came about in response to slow serial transfer rates. USB data transfer rates are faster than any other specification, and new developments in USB technology are further increasing this speed.

Nowadays, the majority of peripheral devices are connected through USB ports. The functionality of your mouse, keyboard, iPod, and many other devices probably depends on your USB component. A USB component that isn’t working correctly will then prevent you from being able to use these crucial devices.

Problems with Peripheral Devices

No one wants to be stuck without a mouse or any of the other aforementioned devices. So, the trick is to replace outdated drivers as quickly as possible. All drivers, regardless of which device they manage, are basically packets of code that your operating system uses to communicate with various devices.

Drivers must be compatible with the operating system you are running. Incompatible drivers will render a device unrecognizable by your operating system. If you’ve ever encountered the “Unknown Device” error, then you’re already aware of this issue. When you upgrade or change your operating system, it’s very likely that your drivers will become outdated. This is because your drivers log certain entries in the registry. When you change your OS, you basically build a new registry.

As a result, you need to replace drivers with reputable tools. Microsoft offers Windows Update as a tool for replacing drivers. Windows Update contains Fix Its, patches, and other downloadable software that applies updates to your computers. Usually, however, drivers require a more specific fix.

Manually Updating Drivers

You can visit your hardware manufacturer’s website to locate new USB drivers. If you navigate to the “Support” or “Downloads” sections of their sites, you might be able to find the right drivers. Be sure that you download drivers specific to your computer’s make and model. You might have to do a bit of browsing to find the right driver.

Using Driver Update Software to Fix Problems

Finally, if you can find good driver update software, then you should use that to replace your USB drivers. Driver update software is known for fixing driver problems rapidly. Be sure you only download driver update software from reputable developers. You definitely don’t want to end up getting software from a sketchy source.

Look for a developer that has built other related update software. Driver update software will actually fix your problem in a short amount of time. The software will look through your system for outdated drivers, list those drivers, and then install updates. It’s a great way to fix drivers. The right kind of driver update software will update your USB drivers quick.

Super 12

This record simply could not kick off in any better fashion than it does in the king-hell drama of “Highway” and the whimsy-pop “Red, White, and Blue” – all channeled through a sort of guitar heavy roots pop beaten along its way by some high and wild drum sounds. “Carry Me Home”, “Lazy Eye”, “Afraid to Fly” – all quality work that strikes a sharp balance between a too hard country-folksiness and a too acoustic straight up alternative rock. It’s a precarious balancing act, but Driver X pulls it o

Fix Your USB Mouse Driver Errors

Fix Your USB Mouse Driver Errors

USB mouse driver problems can be difficult to pin down and resolve. USB mouse drivers should simply work… and when they don’t, they really don’t seem to want to start working again. I will attempt to guide you through resolving this stubborn issue.

But if at the end of this article you’re still having problems, I’ll point you to a solution that will work every time.

Before you do anything else, turn your computer off completely. Let it stay off for about a minute, then turn it back on. I know you may be rolling your eyes at this first step, but I can tell you that years of Help Desk work proved that this fixed more problems than any other fix out there.

Now some real work. You need to uninstall and then reinstall your USB mouse drivers.

To do this, right-click on “My Computer” in Windows XP or earlier or “Computer” on Windows Vista or Windows 7. In Windows XP or earlier, select Properties from the drop down menu then in the window that opens select the Device Manager tab. In Windows Vista or Windows 7, select Properties then select Device Manager from the menu on the left side of the screen.

Within the Device Manager select Mouse or other pointing device. By selecting, I mean expand the little plus. Then right click the existing drivers there and select uninstall. Confirm any prompts.

Then reboot. When Windows restarts, the hardware wizard will launch and try to reinstall a USB mouse driver. Let it do its thing this time. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

If it doesn’t yet work, then do everything I just described again and reboot again. But this time, instead of letting the Wizard select and install your driver for you, click the button to locate the driver manually. After you click this button, navigate to the C:WindowsINF folder. Once this folder is selected, click OK.

If this still doesn’t fix the issue, the proper INF file may not be in your INF folder or the file may be corrupted. The best way to resolve this at this point is to find another computer with the exact same Operating System.

On that computer, navigate to C:WindowsINF and copy all the contents of that directory or folder. Place those on disk or USB drive and transfer them to your computer.

On your computer, first create a backup of the INF folder and create a Restore point. Then copy the contents from the other computer’s INF folder into yours, but do NOT let it overwrite most of your files. You may have to click “No” several times to prevent it from overwriting any files. The ONLY file you want to let it overwrite is any INF file with the word “mouse” in it.

Now repeat the steps I described before… uninstall your USB mouse drivers from the Device Manager and reboot.

One particular program I use for all my driver needs is <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.pcdriverhelper.com/Mouse.html”>Driver Helper</a>. It is Free to Download and it will solve all your driver problems.

Installing Device Drivers for Keyboards, Monitors and Pointing Devices

日曜日, 1月 17th, 2010

Installing Device Drivers for Keyboards, Monitors and Pointing Devices

A computer operating system interacts with a wide range of software applications and hardware devices. In order for the system to understand how the hardware works, it must have information on each device connected to the computer. This information is provided by files known as device drivers. Each piece of hardware needs a device driver to function accordingly on a computer.

Input and Output Devices

Keyboards, mice and touchpads are known as input devices. Hence the name, these devices are used to input information into a computer. Display devices such as monitors are known as output devices, which mean they output or display information.

For the most part, all you have to do is plug in a mouse, keyboard and monitor, as these devices generally fall into the category of plug-and-play hardware. With these types of devices, you typically will not have to manually install device drivers because the operating system recognizes and installs them automatically. In the event that these devices are not recognized, installing the appropriate drivers to your computer is no difficult task.

Manually Installing External Devices

If you want to install an external device, such as a USB mouse, simply plug it into a free USB port on your computer. If it is not a plug-and-play device, it will not be recognized by the operating system. This calls for you to insert the installation disc and follow the prompts for the setup process. After installation and setup is complete, you will be prompted to reboot your computer. Even if no prompt is displayed, it is always recommended to restart the system so the changes can take effect.

Regularly Updating Your Devices

While installing a mouse or keyword is relatively easy, sometimes their device drivers need to be updated to enjoy optimal performance. For example, installing a new piece of hardware could overwrite the device drivers for your mouse. In addition, some drivers simply become outdated because of upgrades performed by the manufacturer. Many times, manufacturers update device drivers to give their hardware added functionality or address known problems. Installing the updated drivers is typically enough to fix all the issues you are experiencing.

How to Install Device Drivers

Updating the device drivers for your keyboard, mouse or monitor is as simple as taking a trip to the Device Manager. To access this utility, open the “Control Panel” and click on “Device Manager.” In this window, you will see a list of all the devices installed on your computer. You can find keyboard devices under “Keyboards,” mouse devices under “Mice and Pointing Devices” and monitors under “Monitors.” Other than the different categories, the steps for installing their device drivers are exactly the same.

After locating the device you want to update, double-click it and then click the “Drivers” tab. From here, select “Update Driver” and choose the option that automatically searches the internet for updated drivers. If drivers are found, they will be automatically updated. Should the updated versions not work for any reason, navigate back to the Device Manager, double-click the device in question, click on the “Driver” tab and choose the “Roll Back” option. This will allow you to return the updated driver back to the original status.
